Ayurveda sees health as a dynamic balance between three doshas — Vata (air/space), Pitta (fire/water), and Kapha (earth/water). Disease begins when this balance is disrupted. Treatment restores harmony through diet, herbs, daily routines (dinacharya), seasonal practices (ritucharya), and purification (Panchakarma).
Agni (digestive fire) is the root of all health — tend it first
Dinacharya — daily routine aligned with nature’s rhythms
Food is the first medicine — eat for your dosha and the season
Prevention over cure — Ayurveda treats the person, not the disease
Ojas — vital essence built through right living, rest, and joy
Practices
Scraping the tongue each morning to remove ama (toxins) accumulated overnight.
How to practice
Upon waking, before drinking water, use a copper or stainless steel tongue scraper. Pull from back to front 7–10 times. Rinse mouth.
Science note
Reduces volatile sulfur compounds and oral bacteria by 75%. Stimulates the vagus nerve. Improves taste perception and digestive signaling.
Swishing cold-pressed oil in the mouth for 15–20 minutes to pull toxins and improve oral health.
How to practice
First thing in the morning, take 1 tablespoon of cold-pressed coconut or sesame oil. Swish gently for 15–20 minutes. Spit into trash (not sink). Rinse with warm water.
Science note
Reduces Streptococcus mutans (cavity-causing bacteria) as effectively as chlorhexidine mouthwash. Reduces gingival inflammation.
Full-body warm oil massage before bathing. Calms the nervous system, nourishes skin, moves lymph.
How to practice
Warm sesame oil (Vata/Kapha) or coconut oil (Pitta). Massage entire body in long strokes on limbs, circular on joints. Let oil absorb 10–15 minutes. Then shower.
Science note
Stimulates oxytocin release. Improves lymphatic circulation. Reduces cortisol. Increases skin hydration and barrier function.
Applying warm herbal oil into the nostrils to clear sinuses, sharpen the mind, and protect the nasal passages.
How to practice
Tilt head back. Apply 2–3 drops of nasya oil (or warm sesame oil) into each nostril. Sniff gently. Massage the nose bridge.
Science note
Moisturizes nasal mucosa. Supports the nasal microbiome. May reduce airborne pathogen entry. Activates trigeminal nerve pathways linked to mental clarity.
